This juicy Farmer Burger captures all that lovely, beefy flavor in the enclosing onion walls. Add an egg to the center onion ring for an earthy, fresh flavor, then top with salt, pepper, and fresh herbs. Enjoy on a bun or on its own with all your preferred burger toppings.

  1. Slice a whole white onion into 1 - 1½ inch slices. Remove the onion layers between the outermost layer and about ⅓ of the way to the center. Remove the innermost layers as well. Save for another recipe or sauté until caramelized for an additional topping.

  2. Stuff the onion between the 2 remaining layers with ground beef.

  3. Place on a griddle or skillet. A grill will not hold the egg.

  4. Let cook for 3-4 minutes then carefully flip.

  5. Crack an egg into the center hole.

  6. Add salt, pepper, and freshly chopped herbs such as chives, rosemary, thyme, or parsley to taste.

  7. Cover and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the egg is perfectly done.

  8. Enjoy with lettuce, tomato, burger sauce, pickles, caramelized onions, or relish.
